What Is Chiropractic Medicine?

A branch of medicine based on the belief that good health involves keeping the nervous system healthy. This treatment involves nerves expanding out from the spine to other areas of the body. As a Chiropractic Physician, Dr. Brett Baird is committed to providing cutting-edge chiropractic care.

It’s All in the Name
The word “chiropractic” is from the Greek “cheiro-praktos”, which means treatment by the hand. The concept is that most diseases and illnesses are caused by the body’s inability to adapt to its surroundings. Chiropractic treats these illnesses by adjusting the musculoskeletal areas of the body, rather than using drugs and surgery.

How Does It Work?

Chiropractors primarily use spinal manipulation to treat the body. The idea is this: proper alignment of musculoskeletal areas, especially the spine, causes the body to heal without surgery or drugs. This manipulation is performed to restore flexibility and reduce pain. Joints and other parts of the body may have suffered injuries. Or the body may experience everyday stress.
The initials “DC” (Doctor of Chiropractic), identifies someone whose education includes four years of chiropractic study at the college level in addition to the standard four-year undergraduate degree.
